Biography
Mr. Yang is a senior advisor at Yoon & Yang LLC and his main practice areas are insurance supervision, financial company examinations and sanctions, and financial consumer protection.
Hae Hwan Yang began his public service career at the Insurance Supervisory Board (ISB) in 1995 and accumulated approximately 30 years of hands-on experience across the full range of financial supervision while serving in key departments of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). In particular, as Director General of the Insurance Supervision Department and the Life Insurance Examination Department, he oversaw the formulation of insurance supervisory policy, institutional improvements, examinations and sanctions of insurance companies, and off-site monitoring. He also led major reforms of the insurance supervisory framework, including the complete amendment of the Insurance Business Act and the adoption of IFRS 17, and conducted examinations across various financial sectors such as life insurance, non-life insurance, and financial investment. Drawing on this experience, he advises on insurance business licensing and supervisory regulations, responses to financial company examinations and sanctions, government relations, and financial consumer protection.
