Yoon & Yang Recognized on the FT Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Report 2018

Yoon & Yang was recognized by the Financial Times (FT) as one of the Most Innovative Law Firms in the Asia-Pacific region at the FT Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Report 2018. The FT Innovative Lawyers Report recognizes  law firms, lawyers and in-house legal teams that have demonstrated innovative approach for clients and its own business models.
 
This year’s report recognized the 26 Most Innovative Asia-Pacific Law Firms and Yoon & Yang was ranked 11th among the list.

Yoon & Yang was recognized for its works in the following categories:
 
  • “Highly Commended” in Rule of law and access to justice
 
“Yoon & Yang and Yoon & Yang Pro Bono Foundation created case and topic-specific legal teams to increase the impact of their pro bono work on sensitive or controversial issues such as homeless, mass culling of livestock, legal education for foreign workers, and atrocities committed by Korean military personnel during the Vietnam war.”
 
  • “Commended” in Legal Expertise: Dispute resolution   
  
“Representing Hanwha Group, the firm argued that the confiscation of an entire performance bond, attached to its proposed acquisition of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, by the Korea Development Bank was unreasonable. The bank was obliged to return 40 per cent of the performance bond plus interest.”
 
  • “Commended” in Legal Expertise : Accessing new markets & capital (Asia-Pacific)
 
“Worked around a complex ownership structure and devised a new payment scheme to create tax incentives in South Korean CHA Healthcare's acquisition of a hospital in Australia.”
 
  • “Commended” in Legal Expertise : Enabling business growth 

“When Hoya's proposed acquisition of Performance Optics led to objections from the Korean Optometric Association, lawyers successfully argued a new product definition, establishing that high- and low-end ophthalmic lenses served different segments of the market. This ended a long merger review by the Korean Fair Trade Commission.”
 
In addition, the Report recognized Yoon & Yang’s senior foreign attorney Paul S. Rhee as “Commended” in Legal Expertise : Enabling business growth for his role in the successful merger clearance of Hoya Corporation’s acquisition of Performance Optics.
